It seems as if specialist retailers, consumer markets and supermarkets are affected comparatively little by the growing online competition, writes Oliver Herrmann, Managing Director of redos, in a guest post for the magazine “Immobilien & Finanzierung” (October 15, 2014). This is why these object classes are interesting for investors right now, explains Herrmann. But he also warns: the security investors feel to have recognized is deceptive. “Specialist retailers too only have a future as long as the business concepts of their operators are up to date”, Herrmann states. The best example: the bankruptcy of Praktiker last year. Even concepts less threatened by e-commerce need to be innovative to convince and maintain customers. Especially in the food retail sector though retailers are very good prepared for the online competition, writes Herrmann.
