In a guest contribution in “Euro am Sonntag” of April 22, 2013, Oliver Herrmann of redos writes that the food retail trade in Germany is less threatened by online trading than is the case in other European countries. The reasons for this appear to be the high concentration of food stores and the great number of discount outlets. Another consideration is the difficulty of delivering goods that are fresh when they are ordered over the internet. All the same, stores would be recommended to react to the challenge of internet trading, as activity in this sector would give them a higher profile.
