In a guest article for the real estate magazine immobilienmanager (10/2018), Christine Hager, Managing Director / Head of Shopping Center Asset Management at redos, deals with the topic of shopping centers in the context of urban logistics. According to Hager, “shopping centers will be an important starting-point for solving the challenges of urban logistics in the future”. With increasing e-commerce, the pressure on delivery services is growing as well. In order to meet their targets and reach their customers in time, they have to move further into the cities. But creating new logistics space in cities is often not an option. One possible solution though: Making use of existing empty spaces in shopping centers as central, package-independent delivery points. “It’s only logical to choose places that consumers will visit regularly anyway,” argues Christine Hager.
